16 Years On Air: A Look Back at June!
Wow, can you believe June has already come and gone? Our sixteenth year on the air is now officially halfway behind us. June was an exceptionally busy and rewarding month, and the Gorean Whip Radio staff truly stepped up to cover some amazing events across Second Life!
Sci-Fi Con 18
The month kicked off with Sci-Fi Con 18 already in full swing. This 11-day event supporting the Michael J. Fox Foundation spanned 9 regions and featured nearly 100 performers! Merchants offered amazing items for sale, auction, and gifts, while hunts and auctions brought plenty of excitement. Our very own Jay Sparrowtree managed the stages to ensure everything ran smoothly. Whip Radio proudly sponsored the center region with a large booth, and our sister station, Whippet Radio, provided background music alongside two other stations. The Thing
Running concurrently was “The Thing,” a major Gorean event aimed at bringing together the scattered villages of Torvaldsland and beyond. This all-IC (In-Character) gathering—with an OOC final dance—focused on celebrating northern heritage, promoting cross-land roleplay, and reviving community solidarity. It was a time to test strength, trade, and share spirits without shedding blood. Many Whip Broadcasters were on-site to cover the festivities from May 29th through June 8th.
Relay for Life Walk Weekend
June also marked the opening of the Relay for Life of Second Life season. Goreans for Hope, one of the many dedicated teams across the grid, helped raise funds for the American Cancer Society. At the time of the walk, the Gorean team had already raised over 409,000 Lindens and they are still collecting! Our station is incredibly proud to have donated our time, talent, and funds to this vital charity for 16 consecutive years.
Second Pride
June is, of course, Pride month, and Second Pride hosted their spectacular fundraising event from June 19th through June 28th. Featuring over 100 performers on multiple stages, Whip Radio was thrilled to return as a sponsor and have many of our broadcasters do live sets. Benefiting the “It Gets Better Project,” the event raised an impressive 1.42 million Lindens. You can find more info at the Second Pride website.
Second Life 23rd Birthday
June also kicked off the month-long celebration of Second Life’s 23rd Birthday! Our staff participated in multiple ways, providing volunteer crew support, stage performances, gifts, and media coverage. Our sponsors also carried on the celebrations at their sims, and Whip Radio was there every step of the way to help spread the word.
Just 30 days in the day-to-day operations of Gorean Whip Radio—and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
